In the aftermath of the 2Billion dollars worth of destruction, “mostly peaceful”, summer of 2020, a lot of the rioters were released. This article places some of the blame on overworked Police Departments but the majority on the District Attorneys who just “dismiss cases”. I wonder what type of Police Department would be more successful, one that is being funded or one that is being defunded?

An analysis of NYPD data by NBC New York has showed that out of the 118 arrests that were made in Bronx in June 2020, most cases have been dismissed, a total of 73.

Another eighteen cases remain open and there are 19 convictions for lesser counts like trespassing, which carry no jail time, the report states. The data shows that in Manhattan there were 485 arrests. 222 have now been dropped and 73 got lesser counts.

Meanwhile, law enforcement expert and former NYPD Chief of Patrol Wilbur Chapman said that the district attorneys’ offices and the courts had "allowed people who committed crimes to go scot-free."

A court spokesman told NBC that the decisions to dismiss cases were primarily made by the district attorneys.
