Housing has become so expensive in the United States that the typical minimum wage worker cannot afford rent, according to a new report.

Two Google searches you should do. The lowest paying jobs, than the average wage for each of those jobs. Only someone just entering the work force with no education and no experience will make minimum wage.  Increasing the minimum wage would sky rocket inflation. I wonder how companies would compete is there was no required minimum wage?

The requirements for rent that is article bases it “report” on has two bedrooms and it can’t cost them more than 30% of their salary. What does the renter spend the additional 70% on?

Lastly what happens during inflation? New Home construction stops, people stop buying and selling houses and people start renting. The demand for cheap rental property lowers the supply and boom rent increases. California is a great example! They raised minimum wage to $14 and housing costs are the highest in the country.

A housing wage is the amount a worker would need to earn to afford a home without spending more than 30% of their income on rent and utilities.

In California, where the minimum wage is $14 an hour, the cost of housing is so high that it still has the highest housing wage: A person in California needs to earn $39.03 an hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment and $31.06 for a one-bedroom.

West Virginia has among the lowest housing wages. But with a minimum wage of $8.75 an hour, workers would still need to earn $14.83 an hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment, and $12.12 for a one-bedroom. The report includes an interactive map that shows how much you need to earn in your area to afford rent.
