Wow Charley Taylor played 14 seasons with the Washington Commanders? Taylor died 18 days after the new name was announced. During those 18 days the “Commanders selected Taylor No. 3” in the NFL draft. He led the Commanders to the playoffs five times and one Super Bowl. Then as a Wide receiver coach won three Super Bowls. What a busy 80 year old.

Obviously Taylor never played a snap as a Commander. I believe The Athletic did this on purpose. They got clicks and 170+ comments, for one of the shortest articles you will ever read. They contradicted themselves on purpose with the photo of Taylor and then referring to him as a Commander only to get responses.

If you look up CNN, ESPN or MSNBC articles about Charley Taylor’s death they all referred to him as playing for “Washington”. If all of those main stream media sources went out of their way to never show the Redskin’s logo or use the name and simply referred to him as a Washington player and then coach, why didn’t The Athletic follow the same principles?

Allow me to get slightly tin foil hatish. I received this article through a notification on my phone. I continuously receive NY Times, Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC and Fox News notifications with articles and breaking news. Why did I receive an alert on my Android phone from The Athletic on this particular story, with this particular article? There were dozens of much more main stream media sources that covered this same story and wrote far less controversial articles. Seems like an odd coincidence. Or was it?
