Liberal Larrys and Lindas. you need to rope in your party, education is going to be a HUGE topic over the next four years and Democrats do not seem to be on the winning side. This law, just like any controversial law, needs to be taken to court and confirmed constitutional. Also this USA Today article continuously calls it the “don’t say gay bil’” even after it gives it’s REAL title and what the bill actually entitles. At least they didn’t completely lie. The actual name of the bill is titled The Parental Rights in Education. When you read this article it states that the bill bans classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity in kindergarten through third grade. After reading that Biden’s comments on twitter make no sense and should have been labeled disinformation. How is prohibiting sex education to children in or younger then third grade unfair, not accepting, unwelcoming and place children, who at the age of 8 have “willingly” “decided” their gender and sexual orientation, in danger? I appreciate Regina Hall’s opinion on this bill. I thought her sketch at the Academy Awards was hilarious but radical Democrats should disregard her opinion and criticize her for sexually assaulting and degrading Jason Momoa on national television. Direct Quotes Flanked by Republican lawmakers at a charter school, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law Monday new restrictions on discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity in Florida schools, derided by opponents as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill and one of the most battled-over pieces of legislation this session. The measure drew criticism from the LGBTQ community nationwide, Hollywood and the White House, and even drew walkouts in schools across the state from students concerned about its potential impact. The legislation was ridiculed by hosts Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer and Regina Hall during their opening comments at Sunday night’s 94th Academy Awards. But DeSantis defended the prohibition Monday as helping parents control their children’s education. The legislation was formally titled Parental Rights in Education. “We will make sure that parents can send their kids to school to get an education, not an indoctrination,” DeSantis said, in signing the legislation at Classical Preparatory School in Spring Hill, where he was joined by several parents, students and Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran, whose wife, Anne, founded the school. Approved largely on party-line votes: Florida Legislature passes 'Don't Say Gay' bill, sends to Gov. DeSantis for signature Walkouts across Florida: High school students across Florida walk out to protest 'Don't Say Gay' bill DeSantis held up posters labeled “Found in Florida,” of transgender educational material that he said had been used in several school districts. He (DeSantis) also targeted Hollywood’s opposition. “If the people who held Harvey Weinstein up oppose us on parents’ rights, I wear that like a badge of honor. I’m not backing down,” DeSantis said, citing the Hollywood producer accused of serial sexual assault. The measure bans classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity in kindergarten through third grade. It also prohibits such teaching in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students, which potentially broadens the ban on discussions to all grade levels. Parents can sue school districts over alleged violations. President Biden took to Twitter to express his opposition to the law, writing that "every student deserves to feel safe and welcome in the classroom." "Our LGBTQI+ youth deserve to be affirmed and accepted just as they are," added Biden. "My Administration will continue to fight for dignity and opportunity for every student and family — in Florida and around the country," The legislation was approved by the state House and Senate voting largely along party lines. Democrats blasted the ban as the latest round in a culture war that also saw Florida’s Republican-ruled Legislature approve new limits on the discussion of race in schools and workplaces and expanding the ability of critics to call for the removal of books they find objectionable on school library shelves. While many opponents said the legislation targeted LGBTQ youth and also put teachers in situations where they could be disciplined for any perceived missteps, others condemned the ban for what they called its unconstitutional vagueness.
