I wonder if the agent in this photo was a state or federal employee? I remained consistent and stated these border patrol agents are innocent until proven guilty and that they deserved a speedy and fair trial in front of a jury of their peers. I knew this stance would not be popular with Liberal Larry’s and Lindas because we can’t take a minute to actually get some facts.
This article claims these images to be horrific, it makes claims that they are being “trampled” and “US border patrol agents apparently using horse reins to whip Haitian migrants” but in the next paragraph states it’s unclear if the “agents actually made contact with any of the migrants”. The hypocrisy is startling.
It’s interesting that they call out one agent who “appears to be smiling” during the incident but I might argue one of the Haitian migrants appears to be smiling as well.
Direct Quotes:
On Monday, September 21, 2021, disturbing images of US border patrol agents apparently using horse reins to whip Haitian migrants attempting to cross the border flooded the Internet, leaving many shocked and outraged at the alleged inhumane treatment of many people desparate to escape a country racked with poverty and struggling in the midst of ongoing political strife.
Although it's unclear whether any of the agents actually made contact with any of the migrants using the horse reigns, the optics are bad.
Treatment of the migrants appears inhumane.
The photos of the US border agents and Haitian migrants that were captured can be described as depicting nothing less than inhumane treatment by the agents who appear to be physically assaulting frightened Black Haitians.
In some photos it appears that the Haitians wading in the river are being trampled by the border patrol agents who were on horseback.
The border agent pictured on the far right even appears to be smiling as Haitian migrants attempt to talk to him. The same agent can be seen yielding the whip threateningly in other photos.
"I have seen some of the footage. I don't have the full context. I can't imagine what context would make that appropriate," White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters during a [press conference]
More than 10,000 Haitians are still attempting to cross into the United States in the hopes of finding safety and security, despite the fact that in recent weeks, the Biden administration has deported many others even though as recently as May 2021, the same administration granted temporary protection status to undocument Haitians living in the U.S.
"If Biden continues with these deportations, he’s no better than Trump,” a recently deported man by the name of Johnson Bordes told The Washington Post. “I’m afraid for my safety here. I don’t even know this country anymore.”
